How to get around?

IVB - Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe - Bus

Unfortunately it is not possible for exchange students to buy the Semesterticket. It is only for Austrian Students, we are very sorry.

There is one other option to get cheaper bus-tickets. At the IVB-Center you can buy a card for 10€, which is valid for one semester and which allows you to buy 4 tickets for the price of 4€. To be eligible to buy this card you have to be a regular student at one of Innsbruck's universities (bring your Studienbestätigung) and under 26 years.

Timetables for all public transport can be found under: www.ivb.at (also in English).

Bike

Where to buy a 2nd hand bike in Innsbruck???

A few stores in Innsbruck
sell 2nd hand bikes. Here are some suggestions:

  • Flohmarkt (flea market): every Saturday there is a flew market in the Hafen of Innsbruck from 7am till 1 pm. Maybe you find a cheap bike there. http://www.flohmarkt.at/flohmaerkte/innsbruck
  • ConRad Fahrradwerkstätte in Hötting: http://www.sozialprojekte.com/projekt/pro-360 map of the area: http://maps.google.at/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=de&geocode=&q=+%09+6020+Innsbruck+-+Tirol,+Ampfererstrasse+30,+%C3%96sterreich+&sll=47.635784,13.590088&sspn=10.9434,28.54248&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Ampfererstra%C3%9Fe+30,+H%C3%B6tting+6020+Innsbruck,+Innsbruck-Stadt,+Tirol&ll=47.263243,11.379186&spn=0.005381,0.013937&z=17
  • Mountainbikestadl Fahrradklinik http://tupalo.com/de/innsbruck/mountainbikestadl-fahrradklinik
  • Rad und Tat - das Beste für Ihr Rad Innsbruck http://www.stadtbranchenbuch.at/innsbruck/323312.html
  • Zweirad Team -, Baumgarter Norbert, Innsbruck http://www.qype.at/place/preview/at-148613-zweirad-team-baumgarter-norbert-innsbruck

In all of the listed shops you should also get reparation for your bike if needed. The average price for a second hand bike in Innsbruck is between 80 and 120 €.

Good luck for your search. ;-)

ÖBB - Austrian Railway

If you are under 26 years of age we strongly recommend you to get an ÖBB VorteilsCard < 26! This is a discount card for €19,- which gives you 50% discount on any journey with the ÖBB within Austria (if you buy the ticket on the machine, 45% if you purchase it on the counter) and 25% for the distance from the Austrian border to your foreign location (only valid if you cross the Austrian border on your trip).

You will also need the VorteilsCard for ESN-Trips organized with train to get a cheaper ticket.

Timetables and more information on services of the ÖBB can be found online: www.oebb.at
